The Glebe terrace is located on a large corner block and originally was the site of five separate units/living quarters. The original terrace house to the street front has been retained with extensive demolition to the rear, removing all of the non-original building fabric. The existing terrace has been renovated to accommodate Living and Dining at the ground floor and two bedrooms – the Master and a Guest room/Study plus Ensuite on the first floor; the first floor being accessed via a new light steel structure and timber stair. The original details of the terrace house have been retained and refurbished including the beautiful pressed metal ceilings now painted in black.
The new building fabric is expressed as new work with the use of a cement based cladding and contrasted with Rosewood timber work. To the rear of the block is a single Garage and Laundry with two bedrooms for the teenage children on the first floor accessed via an enclosed timber stair. Both wings of the house, front terrace/parents area and the rear teenagers’ area are connected with a communal Kitchen and informal living space opening onto an external courtyard.
Every detail on this project was well considered and resolved with the architect/owner which is evident in the success of the end result. There was a great collaborative effort from all parties involved making the construction journey seamless.
